Ten Ways To Save The Planet

  1. Peace - think peace, act peace, don't vote for war.

War uses resources in anger. War kills. War separates and destroys families, communities and countries. Resources and research should focus on the causes and prevention of war and the strategic steps necessary to produce and promote peace. The agenda should be one of peace.

  2. Shop Wisely - reduce consumption, repair and reuse.

There are more than £6 billion worth of clothes lying unused in cupboards across the UK. Shopping can become an addiction, an unconscious desire to find happiness through consumption. This is driven by the hypnotic advertising and television industry. We would probably need another replica of Planet Earth if everyone used as many resources as they do in Kingston upon Thames. See Shopping for a greener planet for 10 things to think about when you next go shopping.

  3. Shop Fairly - fair trade is good trade.

The imbalance and unfairness of world economies means that some people work all day producing goods for us and still die of starvation, lack of basic clean water and fair trade dealings. Unfair trade creates monoculture farming, industrial farming practises and use of chemicals. People who work deserve a fair wage where ever they live. One Earth. All People.

  4. Energy Efficiency - slows global warming, saves money.

This is no longer advice. It is a grim and startling necessity. Global warming is upon us. You must become part of the global solution. Energy efficiency is such an important part of this solution. Be part of it and save money too.

  5. Make your home Green - get rid of chemicals and poisons.

Our homes are our private temples. By eradicating and cutting down on poisonous and noxious chemicals we can affect the slowdown of the chemical industry. The chemical world leaves a nasty legacy for the future, there are simply millions of chemicals available in so many different products. Our sensitivity will increase as humankind reaches toxic overload.

  6. Bike it - give up your car.

50% of the planets air pollution comes from cars. Most journeys are still less than 2 km. There is no more important issue that we have to face together. It's amazing that we have yet to understand the severity of the oil world and pollution situation. Give it up. Get a bike.

  7. Water is precious - clean and safe, don't waste it.

Fix dripping taps, save water whenever possible, take water seriously as a precious commodity. We are so lucky to have such a clean supply. Many millions of people throughout the world pray daily for adequate water.

  8. Don't waste your waste - recycle and reuse.

You can recycle at least 30% of the contents of your dustbin, and what's more it will save the council money and the planet benefits. Some resources, like steel cans and aluminium drinks cans are so valuable they can make money for charities and groups. Get the information you need to recycle properly. Think about what you throw away. There are so many creative things you can do give to charities, jumble sales, friends and others.

  9. Love your Planet and your local space.

Look around you. We are blessed with beautiful open spaces, wonderful walks, parks, a wealth of history. Whether urban or country each piece of land could be respected and loved. As more of our green and community spaces are snatched away from us by greedy developers, only interested in the bottom line, the money, we must support those spaces that are left.

  10. Get Active - do something - anything!

You never need to feel helpless. There are so many other people ready, doing, activating, speaking, writing, imagining, organising, praying and working towards a green and healthy future.
